FlowFest’24, Flowable’s annual online event held on October 15th, was nothing short of spectacular! This year’s event offered three dynamic streams—Business, Tech, and Innovation—along with inspiring opening and closing keynotes. With 12 highly anticipated sessions and over 20 expert speakers, FlowFest brought together thought leaders from Forrester, Bruce Silver, Bank Julius Baer (BJB), FIS, a global banking giant, and, of course, Flowable.
Let’s recap this day of successful sessions:
FlowFest’24 kicked off with an exciting keynote by Flowable CEO Agim Emruli, who set the tone with his forward-thinking insights into the future of automation. He dived into Gartner’s recently coined concept “business orchestration and automation technologies (BOAT)” and how it aims to improve enterprise connectivity through unified technologies. Agim highlighted how Flowable has for years been a holistic platform for end-to-end orchestration. With decades of experience in automation, Flowable's focus remains on delivering valuable capabilities rather than following fleeting trends.
Aligning with the BOAT framework, Agim gave the audience an exciting preview of what’s to come on the Flowable platform, including:
Advanced RPA integration: By incorporating open-source RPA tools like UI Path, Flowable offers flexibility and choice to users, allowing seamless integration into their existing tech ecosystems.
Intelligent document processing (IDP): With OCR technology (through partners like Abbyy), Flowable has improved document ingestion, classification, and validation for more efficient and accurate document workflows.
AI-assisted orchestration: Flowable’s AI-assisted capabilities focus on dynamic process modeling, decision-making, and content analysis. With AI at the heart of process execution, organizations can expect more adaptive and responsive workflows.
Agim’s message was clear: Focus on meaningful, value-driven capabilities that will drive organizations forward — not simply flashy features.
But what good is all that without real-world proof? To bring these concepts to life, three customers were invited to showcase how they use Flowable in their organizations to streamline and optimize their processes.
Bank Julius Baer (BJB) operates in a highly complex environment, managing everything from marketing approvals to transaction processing. Without a unified system, different departments were at risk of creating redundant processes, increasing costs, and governance challenges. Enter Flowable.
Simon Wyss, Head Global Shared Services and Thressiya Pazhedathuparambil, IT Product Manager showcased how BJB adopted Flowable as a centralized governance model, integrating the bank’s various internal systems — such as client data, HR records, and transaction systems — under one streamlined platform. By doing so, BJB reduced redundancies, enhanced governance, and standardized processes across all departments.
Flowable’s flexibility allowed BJB to support different development models:
Pro-code for IT-driven workflows;
Low-code for collaboration between business and IT;
Open source for fully customizable workflows.
This adaptability enabled BJB to cater to the diverse needs of their global teams, driving better service delivery, reducing operational silos, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Oksana Dovorecka , Senior Digitalization Lead at the largest private bank in the world, delivered an impactful keynote focused on empowering knowledge workers with digital workflows. The bank’s challenge? Reducing business costs, boosting productivity, and improving risk control, all while breaking free from manual tools like Excel.
Flowable provided the perfect solution. Integrated into the bank's agile teams, Flowable’s low-code platform allowed the bank to quickly deploy workflows that tackled complex business challenges. The result? Streamlined compliance processes, automated audit trails, and structured data for faster, better decision-making.
By reducing manual tasks, Flowable empowered knowledge workers to focus on high-value activities like innovation, significantly enhancing organizational efficiency.
The third session in the business stream was led by Stephen Leake, Director, Product Line Manager and David Ratnage, Head of Commercial Lending Vertical at FIS. They shared FIS’ journey of modernizing its commercial loan origination process. What was once a manual, time-consuming system needed a digital transformation to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.
Flowable was the answer, providing an orchestration layer that optimized the entire loan process—from servicing to syndication. By leveraging BPMN, CMMN, and DMN standards, FIS was able to standardize practices across teams and drastically reduce loan processing times, cutting down approval times from months to days.
The benefits were clear:
Faster time to market: The low-code environment enabled rapid development and quicker response to market changes.
Regulatory compliance: Flowable’s embedded compliance checks streamlined audits and ensured adherence to changing regulations.
Enhanced client satisfaction: Faster loan approvals meant happier clients and a competitive edge against fintech disruptors.
Flowable’s modular implementation allowed FIS to scale their solution as needed, handling varying loan scenarios and client demands with ease.
What makes FlowFest stand out is its blend of diverse perspectives on automation, spanning across business, tech, and innovation. While the business stream put the spotlight on Flowable customers and real-world use cases, the tech and the innovation stream, gave the stage to the Flowable Team to showcase the features and capabilities that ensure customers get the wanted value out of the tool.
